Alex's Wife

1. ALEX'S WIFE and the fibroids nearly cost her her life.

It was the year 2011 in the month of March, Alex's wife had been admitted to a local hospital and was found to be suffering from serious fibroids that were found to be bleeding and causing excessive loss of blood.

The doctors recommended surgery to get rid of the fibroids once and for all. However, there was not enough blood at the hospital to facilitate the successful carrying out of the operation.

At the time Mr.Alex was calling our offices for assistance, the national blood bank was low on blood units and therefore we were compelled to go to our database of past blood donors, calling up those that matched Alex's wife blood group and were due for donation.

After many relentless attempts, Mr.Mwangi, a Nairobi businessman agreed to donate and help save the life of a total stranger. The following day, he donated blood and the operation on Mr.Alex's wife was performed successfully. She is now recovering.

4. THE AMAZING STORY OF LUCY GITONGA

“My son Jeremiah is a beneficiary of blood donation. When our first born son, Jeremiah was born in 2006 after waiting for a child for four years, we were the happiest couple ever. He was a strong handsome boy weighing 3.5k.g, very healthy looking. But in 4 hours time, the doctor discovered he was not well and put him in an incubator. They took blood tests and discovered he had what they called’ complicated Jaundice’. He was quickly deteriorating and needed blood urgently. We were told he had 50/50 chance of survival. We were devastated! (To say the least). A family friend donated and that evening the boy was transfused blood. Within 10days he was discharged from Nairobi Hospital strong and healthy. We thank God so much for healing our son through a blood donor, Ken Isige. Blood donation saves lives, it saved our precious boy.”

“When I had my first child, I lost a lot of blood and had to undergo a blood transfusion. Wah! I was much afraid initially because I was not sure if the blood was safe and well screened. After a counseling session with the medics at the hospital, my family and I were convinced and assured that the blood going to be transfused is very safe and well screened. Blood transfusion was done. I am a healthy mother of two more children now. It is unfortunate that I cannot donate blood now; however I am able to build my nation and take care of my children because of a blood donor who voluntarily donated blood for me. I therefore appeal and sensitize my colleagues, family and friends to be regular blood donors.”
