Universities Blood Donor Program

The Bloodlink Foundation Universities blood donor program since its launch in early 2008 has not only seen an increase in blood collection, but various student university clubs have also been brought together in a unifying campaign. Positive behavior change and a highly informed donor base that is vital for stability in blood donation have been achieved. University students volunteer there energy, time and lives in support of this worthy cause. Bloodlink Foundation is a leading organization in blood donor recruitment

The main objective of the university blood donor program is to meet the blood shortage that is present in the country. Through this program, BLF has involved different student groups including AISEC Kenya, Kenya Red Cross Society, Student Unions, Christian Unions and Rotaract Club, and Peer Educators Clubs among others.

The different student groupings are all included in the blood donor mobilization taking care not to exclude any major groupings. The mobilization is a purely voluntary exercise that requires sacrifice from interested students who have a desire to participate in the life saving cause.

Awareness campaign

Publicity and information on blood donation activities is created through:-
• Use of public address systems set up strategically during blood drives to act as edutainment for passers-by.
• Use of IEC materials such as posters and fliers designed by students for the drives and tailor-made to meet needs of the targeted audience.
• Local university radio stations used to highlight the blood donation events and facts on blood donation across e.g. at Daystar University.

Potential blood donors are sensitized on blood donation through:-
• Information dissemination desks.
• Blood donor mobilization sessions.
• Interactive health talk sessions.
